Red Kite Project Gigrin Farm Powys
Nestled in the countryside in the Elan Valley amongst the rolling hills of Mid Wales is Gigrin Farm , home to the largest population of Red Kites in Europe . At 2pm every day, 365 days a year, you can witness a most spectacular site when a tractor full of meat trudges out into the field . The meat is scattered and you then watch from the saftey of one of the hides or the viewing platform over 500 birds feeding .
We were chosen to install a biomass boiler at the site which was to heat the newly refurbished cafe and visitor centre and link to the main house . As well as installing the Biomass boiler and pellet feeder the project was to include new radiators and piping in the cafe area and building of a pellet store ( pictures above) . This was to hold the 4 tonnes of pellets at any one time .
As well as doing their bit for the environment Chris and the team are benefitting from Government support as they receive a pay back over 20 years through the RHI scheme .Please type in the link to find out more details. http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/renewable-heat-incentive
